Individual Attention in a Workshop Setting

The Twin Cities are considered the most literate and literature-loving cities in the country. And where there are readers, there are writers. Founded by author, former New York acquisitions editor, and native Minnesotan Ashley Shelby, Mill City Writers’ Workshop provides highly-individualized attention to these aspiring and established writers in a supportive environment of similarly dedicated writers.

Mill City Writers’ Workshop offers Twin Cities writers writing workshop programs at all skill levels. Each workshop provides a high level of individual attention to student work, as well as in-class and take-home writing exercises (critiqued by the teacher), critical readings, and lectures on craft. The core element of the program, however, is the Workshop, in which each writer will have his or her work read closely and critiqued by fellow students and the teacher in a warm, encouraging writers’ environment.

Unlike other writing workshops, Mill City Writers’ Workshop limits class enrollment to under ten students per class, creating an intimate setting where each student receives in-depth critique and attention.

If you choose Mill City Writers’ Workshop, you will write. Instead of spending time on “summoning the muse” and relaxation exercises, Mill City writers will find themselves writing almost as soon as they walk in the door of our sun-filled Hopkins studio.

Mill City Writers’ Workshop also presents single-day seminars on various aspects of publishing and specific elements of craft. Watch our schedule for upcoming events with Ashley Shelby and other local writers and editors. Mill City Writers’ Workshop also offers private one-on-one sessions for writers interested in a personalized critique of their manuscripts. We hope to see you in class!
